What were we thinking???????

Tonight (Friday) we had a ‘Weird Food’ night at Youth Group. The theme for the night was to create some unusual combinations of food that would normally be edible.  Well, firstly we had to perform something similar to the Iron Chef, in that we had to create something out of five ingedients we were given.  The ingredients included: Raw Sugar, Flour, an Egg, Cocoa and butter.  Our team created, what we called, Tropical Island Surprise.  The surprise being we didn’t think it was edible.  Tropical Island surprise had a extinct volcano made out of the flour surrounded by sand (sugar).  In the crater of the volcano was a sulphur lake (egg) and was partially filled by some soil (cocoa mixed with butter).  This was topped off with a plastic palm tree (that we found somewhere).

Anyway, after this we played our obligatory game of Hannah/Trent which is a PY-Albury favourite.  There are no actual rules for Hannah/Trent but it is alot of fun.  It is basically a game of keepings off with the girls v guys. You are not allowed to call out anyone’s actual name except of Hannah (girls) and Trent (guys).  This game is named after two former YG members.

Next was a game of Iron Gut.  This involved a relay.  Each member of the team had to consume some kind of food or liquid.  The items on offer were a Wheet-Bix biscuit, Raw Fish of some kind and some other mixtures of normally edible food/drink.  (I’ll try to add them later). Tristan, however, decided to consume all of the items on offer because his team decided it was gross and he didn’t want to lose.  He then spent the rest of the night trying not to throw up and looked a few shades of green.

A few of the kids also brought the food up.

At supper there were other foods???? on offer with the worst probably being Grass Jelly that Luke found in Goulbourn.  What are they on up there?

Anyway, it was a great night.  Tristan I hope your stomach is getting better.

Ciao for now.

Pictures to follow.

In perspective.

Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one so the when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift.

When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we don’t see the one which has been opened for us.

The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you’ve ever had.

It’s true that we don’t know what we’ve got until we lose it, but it’s also true that we don’t know what we’ve been missing until it arrives.

Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they’ll love you back!  Don’t expect love in return; just wait for it to grow in their heart but if it doesn’t, be content it grew in yours.

It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an hour later to like someone, and a day to love someone, but a lifetime to forget someone.

Don’t go for looks; they deceive.  Don’t go for wealth; even that fades.  Go for someone who makes you smile because it only takes a smile to make a dark day seem bright.  Find the one that makes your heart smile.

There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real!

Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you only have one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy.

Always put yourself in others’ shoes.  If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person, too.

The happiest people don’t necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

Happiness lives for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who have tried, for only those can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives.

Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss and ends with a tear.

The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can’t go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone was smiling.  Live life so that when you die, you’re the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

Something I stole from another blogger.  Hope they don’t mind but it seemed pertinent to me.

Singing in the stands

Having not gone to the Sydney Olympics, I thought it would be good to say that I have attended some form of international sporting event.  Well I have, at least, been to the a World Cup cricket match but that was in my local town so doesn’t count as much.  Well, anyway, I decided to take the kids down to Rugby 7s for the first night of competition.  Having never been to a union match before let alone a sevens event, plus never being to Telstra Dome either, and seeing it was at night, I didn’t quite know what to expect.

What an experience it was though.  Telstra Dome is fantastic.  Apart from having a roof on it, you can see the ground as you walk around the stadium.  As usual food and drink were a bit pricy so I shall remember that next time.  Anyway, the seats we got were fantastic.  We had a great view of the ground. The spectators around us just added to the excitement and colour of the night.

Behind us sat a Pom with his Australian wife and his Welsh mate, Sanchez.  They added to the night with their good natured humour and singing as only the Brits know how to do.

Sanchez got very patriotic when the Welsh players ran below us to warm up before their game.  He put on that he knew one of them by yelling out "Gareth" to them, to which the only Gareth in the side looked up at him and waved to him.  Sanchez, turned around to everyone and told us that he grew up with Gareth only to say later that he didn’t know him and he knew that there would be someone named Gareth in the side.

In the row in front of us were a group of American’s who had never been to a game before in their life but they really took to the occasion by having their faces painted.  One had the black and white of New Zealand which was a little strange hearing an American accent come from someone dressed as a kiwi.

The kids got into the spirit too by having their faces painted.  Claire had the Australian flag while Liam just had the green and gold.  The two of them where very patriotic by waving their flags and singing the Australian anthem any chance they got.  Claire often got up and danced during the breaks in play when they played music over the stadium speaker.

In all the night was fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone.  The only bad taste was the shocking refereeing during the Australia v England match but less said about that the better.

Anyway check out the pics
